Italian oil & gas engineering company providing well-integrity analyses needed to safely store CO2 is interested in being partner or supplier in carbon capture and storage (CCS) project

The Italian company has performed many “drilling, completion and production optimization” engineering works, gaining a significant experience especially in the assessment of well integrity and in the standardization of well operations. In the CCS field, the company has more than 10 years of experience, starting from a 2005 Eni project aimed at evaluating the feasibility of storing the CO2 in three depleted gas fields in Italy. The main concern around CO2 storage is that the CO2 must be permanently isolated in the reservoir, so the assessment of the sealing of well barrier elements represents a critical aspect in such context. To address the matter, the company proposes a two-fold approach: • Well integrity assessment, that is the assessment of the integrity of the existing wells connected with the CO2 storage reservoir, which may represent the possible leak paths for the stored gas. • Well integrity assurance, that is the definition of the requirements of well barrier elements for new injection wells in a CO2 environment. The company has also developed a software that supports both a risk-based analysis of the current well integrity status and the estimation of the well ageing and residual life, by means of specific degradation factors applied to well barrier elements.
