Summary:
A French start-up has developed a new way of enhancing industrial products durability and manufacturability through specific integration of graphene premix.
Applications cover barriers effects, optimized thermal management and mechanical reinforcement in sectors as aerospace, automotive, energy, building and manufacturing. The French company seeks European industrial partners interested in using this technology in the framework of a commercial agreement with technical assistance.
Description:
Graphene is composed of few layers of carbon atoms that exhibits exceptional properties. Various types of graphene are available on the market, with different advantages and disadvantages in terms of purity, quality, and scalability for industrial production.
The French start-up, created in 2017, developed a unique and patented process to produce graphene in dispersions, thus facilitating the introduction of graphene in a broad range of applications. It clearly sets this production process apart from the existing technology, still supplying graphene in powder form, with its security and product variability limitations.
The start-up supports industrial companies and R&D partners in their product development projects by developing customized graphene-based solutions compatible with their industrial environment and with minimized environmental impacts.
Its expertise on graphene focuses on 3 main applications:
- Non-metallic primers for protective coatings, in the building, heavy industry, and transportation sectors
- Mechanical reinforcement & thermo-electrical properties for composites and polymers, with applications in low-carbon emission transportation.
- Energy efficiency (battery management system & thermal fluids)
Few examples of successful projects with associated benefits:
+ 40% improvement of thermal conductivity of an engine oil with an addition of only 0,1g of graphene/L of oil.
+ 25% in thermal diffusivity for an addition of 0,2% graphene in a structural epoxy resin.
+ 35 % improvement of surface corrosion protection thanks to a graphene-enriched epoxy or aqueous-based paint.
+ 10% more hydrophobic varnish.
The French company will leverage on its technological know-how to develop a specific graphene liquid premix, meeting the partner's requirements, that will be implemented by the partner to establish a proof of concept. A second step of formulation engineering will help optimize product performance. The latter will be closely monitored by French company, in close collaboration with the partner.
Cooperation with the identified European partners will be based on a commercial agreement with technical assistance.
Type (e.g. company, R&D institution…), field of industry and Role of Partner Sought:
The French company is looking for European industrial partners from the aerospace, automotive, energy, building and manufacturing sectors. Partners will be active in the specialty chemicals and specialty materials segments and involved in the application of paints, coatings and varnishes as well as in the formulation of polymers, composites, oils and thermal fluids.
They will be willing to integrate this new technology to enhance their industrial products durability and manufacturability.
A commercial agreement with technical assistance is sought whereby the French company will share its know-how to develop specific graphene liquid premix.
Other fields of application can be considered.
