Description:
The company was established in 1985 in Northern Italy and operates in the field of air pollution treatment. Their products include the study, project and construction of all types of plants for the purification of gaseous pollutants and their clients are industries active in every sector, especially in waste to energy sector. In 2015 the company developed an eco-friendly plant based on a biological process aimed to reduce the hydrogen sulphide content in the waste treatment.
The process of anaerobic fermentation of waste produces biogas, namely methane, which contains high levels of hydrogen sulphide (H2S), which is highly corrosive to the production units.
The plant consists in a tower for biogas desulphurization with reagent recovery, therefore reducing at the same time the consumption of sodium hydroxide (the spent cleaning reagent). Inside the tower, the biogas is washed in counter-current flow, at low speed. The plant is designed so to allow a large contact surface between the biogas and the washing solution thanks to suitable packing materials with high specific surface area. The liquid is then pumped to a recovery tank where, by air insufflation, the conversion of the salts contained in the solution into insoluble solids takes place. In a specific tank section, the elemental sulphur and sulphates settle down and then easily removed. At the end of the process, the clean liquid is sent back, through the recirculating pump from the tank to the tower to be used again.
The biogas, before being emitted from the top of the tower, passes through a demister, alveolar packs to separate droplets to prevent the reagent solution carry-over.
The whole process is carefully controlled through operative parameters as temperature, pH, oxygen quantity and nutritional substances. When installed in processing plants where biogas flow or hydrogen sulphide concentration dynamically changes, the desulphurization plant has been proved to be able to quickly adapt.
The plant efficiency in optimal conditions has been proved to achieve 90% abatement of hydrogen sulphide.
