A UK engineering design company, with team skills in multiple areas of system design, mechanical, hardware, software design and 3D printing design has developed a new fuel cell sensor which accurately measures the mix of gases in blended hydrogen / natural gas environments. The device helps the user, typically companies involved in all sectors of the gas production industry, monitor the mix of gases in a gas flow environment, enabling them to adjust the mix where required. The sensor has been designed using solid oxide fuel cell technology and monitors the mix of hydrogen, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and other natural gases. This gives the user greater control of quality, safety and can affect cost savings, using the readings generated to adjust the flow levels of individual gases. The device has a number of advantages over traditional monitoring devices. The device can measure hydrogen and natural gas mixtures in one device, negating the need for multiple sensors. for quality and fiscal purposes. The unit will cost a twentieth the price of the current analysers on the market. Results are near real time, i.e. almost instant, instead of the current 4 to 12 minutes delay in other devices. The fuel cells are factory set for life and require no expensive recalibration or engineer visits. The unit includes a back-end data portal with an easy to install Application Programming Interface API. The communications board is interchangeable, allowing different in-country options e.g. 4G, 5G, IOT, as required. The unit is very portable, being the size of a small carry-on plane suitcase and is simple to install. The company is looking to enter into distribution agreements with companies experienced in gas related industries, or manufacturing companies who would produce the sensor under license.
