Description:
UK SME was established in 2018, founded by a wheelchair user. Their first product launched was a very successful innovative seat/sling, to allow the transfer of wheelchair users to the aircraft seat in a quick, comfortable, dignified and safe manner. As for many businesses and individuals, COVID 19 has brought many challenges particularly to the travel sector. It has also given the company founder an opportunity to focus and expand on their already planned product developments. Having listened to customer feedback and by developing prototypes, they have created products that incorporate some of the broader challenges that exist for wheelchair users.
They now focus on a range of day to day and independent living products with travel being just one element:
The original “travel” sling - discreet in-situ transfer sling for hoists and manual transfers designed specifically for children to large adults in wheelchairs who are unable to transfer themselves independently. Ideal for repositioning throughout the day or where a manual transfer may be required.
Padded arm covers and leatherette strap designed for airport travel. The padded arms are designed for most foldable arm rests on commercial aircraft. The purpose is to provide added safety when a passenger is being lifted into an aircraft seat with foldable arm rests. The covers are fully padded to prevent skin shearing or bruising if a passenger is knocked into the arm rests during a transfer. The leatherette strap is a one size fits all that can be applied to all ranges and sizes of wheelchair users. It can be quickly and easily applied around the passenger's legs and secured with velcro. The leg strap is designed to help keep a passengers legs together when being transferred on the aisle chair, preventing the need for special assistance to physically hold or support the passengers legs.
A new simplified version of the original sling - designed to be extremely universal and applicable for a whole manner of situations. It can be used to sit in all day long or for a manual transfer, such as hospital appointments, theme parks, transport, swimming, dentist, boats, adaptive skiing, and so much more.
Harness – designed for children up to large adults who have very poor upper body strength and control. Particularly useful for those with high spinal cord injuries and neuromuscular conditions. It acts as an added layer of safety, keeping individuals secure to the slings when being manually lifted.
Leg straps - A range of leg straps for different applications of use, for different ages and sizes from children to adults. The leg straps are a useful product on their own, but work extremely well with the two slings.
Waterproof cover – a cover to keep the wheelchair seating area completely dry. Ideal for water-based activities or for those managing incontinence. It has been designed for both powered and manual wheelchairs with high and low back versions.
Distribution partners will ideally span the whole of Europe and have established distribution channels and networks. The UK SME is happy to consider working with distributors on a country basis.
Type (e.g. company, R&D institution…), field of industry and Role of Partner Sought:
Distribution partners will need to have a solid understanding of the mobility sector in their respective regions.
An understanding of aviation and contacts in this sector such as those that operate within special assistance functions/departments at airports is also advantageous.
Also if the distributor has good relationships with governments, charities etc this is attractive.
